General information on the town of Veenendaal, The Netherlands

When visitors, outsiders, or new residents are asked for their first impression of Veenendaal, they usually answer that it is "an active town". This picture agrees reasonably well with the facts, over 60,000 inhabitants, 2,900 enterprises, 553 shops, and numerous other public facilities make Veenendaal stir. And for the time being there will be no end to this development. Every year 325 new houses will be built according to schedule, the population will increase by some 800 and about 10 ha of industrial sites will change ownership.

Though being an attractive town of separate residential and industrial areas, Veenendaal is especially attractive because of its central position in the heart of the country, indeed bordering on the Randstad, the urban agglomerati-on of Western Holland. It is situated on the E35 European motorway, which connects the international seaport of Rotterdam with the German hinterland. The provincial capital cities of Arnhem and Utrecht are less than 30 kilometres away, and can be reached by train as well. Within a short distance of the townboundaries you can admire the beautiful scenery of woods, hills and a vast national park.
